Tribal West Lacrosse

About Tribal West Lacrosse

"'Lacrosse is a Generational!!', I blurted to myself in a rare burst of hacker's inspiration...It unites generations and generates passion in anyone who plays it for any length of time..."

- from Lacrosse Magazine a long time ago (it randomly stuck in our heads...if you know who said this email Fish and let him know)

Tribal West Lacrosse (TWL) is player owned...player operated. We've been in business since November of 2002, taking pride in meeting all of your Lacrosse needs in Utah. Fish Bartlett opened the shop mainly due to the fact that he couldn't get what he needed for his players. He also long ago became committed to the game, and with a life long love for the sport he felt a shop would add validity in Utah to skeptics of the ever growing, oldest American sport.

There are many unique things about our shop...making it just as much of a community as it is a retail store. In addition to a full-line of equipment and sticks for men and women, there's also clothing, uniforms, and field equipment. We offer custom stick stringing and custom head dying. You can even sign up for our weekly stick stringing clinics (The clinics will run from 6:15pm to 7:30pm, and will be held every Wednesday night. There are only six spots available each night, so sign up now at the store).

In addition to great lacrosse gear, custom services, and the best advice anywhere on the game, we also have several 'extra' things happening...all in our first year! These include a summer lax camp for kids and a box lacrosse league for both high school and men...to name just a couple. For more information and what's happenin' in the TWL lax world, you can check out our calendar page. There's all kinds of cool announcements posted there...both locally and from around the country. If you would like to have your event posted on our calendar page email Fish and he'll get it listed.
Here's a few more unique features about Tribal West Lacrosse (if there's more info available we'll link it up):

  • In-house Lacrosse Lounge. Bring in your videos (the only rule is you have to make a copy for us!), kick back and watch a game on the sofa. Everyon is also encouraged to bring in anything they'd like to hang on the TWL Wall of Fame. This could include photos, newspaper clippings, articles for the bookshelf...whatever you would like to contribute. Come check out the TWL Lax Lounge soon to be Museum!!
  • In-house Shooting Cage with Radar Gun. Ever wanted to see how fast you can fire a shot? We have an indoor cage with mesh netting keeping everyone safe outside the zone. The cage is equiped with a speed gun and we do keep track of fastest shots each and every month. What's nice about this service is that you can actually shot with the stick you are thinking of buying before you get it home. We also use the cage to display the shooting target and lax wall...each of which you can purchase at the shop. Come on down and see if you can get yourself listed as the fastest shooter in your category on the site (updated monthly)!

STX History

In the early 1960's, the lacrosse players who would later start up STX, began experimenting with synthetic materials to create a lighter and more resilient stick. What they created became the lacrosse stick of the future.

The earliest sticks had a solid double-walled head made of Dupont “Adiprene” urethane rubber affixed to a hickory shaft. Though crude by today's standards, STX's first synthetic stick went a long way in solving the biggest problems facing the sport. Each stick was now the same weight, balance, and flexibility because they were made from the same material and the same mold every time.

With this model, STX was awarded the first U.S. patent for a synthetic lacrosse stick and the game would never be the same.

In the Fall of 1995, Paul Gait had a dream of opening a lacrosse speciality store. His only question was where to open one? After discussing his idea with various people, Paul decided that the best place to open a store would be in the city that made him and his brother, Gary, lacrosse legends - Syracuse!

In the Spring of 1996, Paul's dream became a reality. The first lacrosse speciality store in Central New York was opened. Under the name of Gait Brothers Lacrosse (GB Lax), we service the Central New York lacrosse market. Not only are our doors open for Central New Yorkers, but also to the rest of the United States through our extensive catalog business and website.

As the Gait Brothers pride themselves on being the greatest players in lacrosse, the same can be said for their retail business. Just as they entertain fans on the field, they aim to please their customers in the store.

At Rock-it Pocket, we like to think of ourselves as the "Stick Guys." That means our job is providing the customer with the best custom-strung lacrosse stick that money can buy. We focus on helping the customer make a well-informed descision with which they will be comfortable.

While the Rock-it Pocket is certainly our specialty, we're not so bad at mesh either! Check out each of the pocket styles below to learn more about our stringing. Feel free to call us at 1 (800) 374.7468 if you have any questions about which pocket is right for you.

If you already have a head and would like it restrung, please select "Restring My Head" or select from the pulldown menu on the "Services" button above.

About Face Off LAX

We are J.R. and Ava Nebeker, the owners of Face Off Lax in Salt Lake City. A decade ago we thought LAX stood only for the Los Angeles International Airport and that a crease was a thing you ironed down the front of your dress pants. A slash was, of course, that thing Zorro did with his sword, and a check was only a small piece of blue paper we used to pay our bills!

Nine years ago, our son came home and said he wanted to play lacrosse, we said, “You wanna’ play la-whut?” So began our venture into the world of lacrosse. Five years ago, during our 3rd season of watching our son’s play, J.R. started asking, “Where are all these people buying their lacrosse stuff?” Being a successful, savvy businessman, he could see their was a need and an opportunity as we witnessed the growth of lacrosse in Utah and in the western U.S.

During the same time frame we became friends with several lacrosse players who had grown up submerged in the lacrosse culture in the east. They have contribute much to our knowledge and love of the sport. And while we still aren’t even close to being “lacrosse experts” we have proven that parents can be taught.

Concurrently our nephew was playing goalie for a lacrosse team in Montclair, New Jersey. Our sons had opportunities to attend annual lacrosse summer camps on the east coast, and over the years lacrosse became an integral part of the Nebeker family.

We continued with our research of the sport of lacrosse and the lacrosse sporting goods industry for five years, and on Memorial Day weekend, 2005, at the NCAA Championship games in Baltimore, MD, we decided that 2005 was our year to open Face Off Lax in Salt Lake City. The name Face Off was decided on by J.R. and his sister, Nancy, sitting right there watching lacrosse in M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore!

And open we did, in full style on November 20th, 2005, with the help of many friends, family, business colleagues, and lacrosse players from all over the country! The rest is Face Off Lax history - at this point, a short history. But one with a huge beginning and all the markings of success!
